  1. John Ryan - The Poet - Patrickswell.
There was a dance held at Johnson's, Patrickswell about 30 years ago, and John wrote the following in connection with the affair. He mentions the local people. A few of the old R.I.C. Who apparently attended the ball.
My name is Rourke the piper the truth I do declare.
There is not a ball or party, but I'm sure to be there.
I play at dance and wedding. I'm off at every call.
But the cream of entertainments was that night at Johnson's ball.
I entered in and there beheld the table brimming (?)
With beef and bread and bacon, and porter too galore.
We all sat down and filled ourselves like bullocks in a stall.
For eat and drink was all the go that night at Johnson's ball.
The feast being o'er the table cleared . I played a dashing reel.
While Kearney, of the R.I. C. displayed a toe and heel.
But Dan Gillane, Dan the (?) for such I must him call.
He slapped his long legs on the floor that night at Johnson's ball.
