  1. In former times flax grown to a great extent around the district of Lough Guir. When this flax was ripe, they took it to the bogs and left it there, to steep for some time. After a couple of days, it was scattered out in the to dry. When it was perfectly dry they took it home and spun it into linen from it they made all the garments they needed.
Rusheen Bog was very useful for turf. When Count de Salis was the Land Lord his tenants who lived in the locality of the Bog were supplied with as much turf as they needed and they knew nothing about burning coal until the turn was burned out.
