    Ye gentle swains attend a moving lay,
    Which I have heard tonight by yonder way;
    The fall of learned men and quick decline
    Of good Mac Sorley, born of ancient line.
    A worthy man who had some time before - 5
    Extensive power and merited much more.
    And then enjoyed unmixed with care or strife
    The blessings of this transitory life.
    In Cork we've often seen this Chieftain stand,
    'Midst highborn peers and barons of the land. - 10
    Where by his zeal the needy were redressed
    And such as were by lawless power oppressed
    Crowds in the streets flocked round him in a trice
    To state their cases and obtain advice.
    By force of law he broke coercive chains - 15
