  1. May is considered an unlucky month for marriage. Shrove-Tide begins on 7th of January and ends on Shrove Tuesday. Long ago, the people used to draw men with chalk on the walls of houses in which lived old maids or bachelors. They used also go into the houses and drag out the unmarried people and blindfold them and bring them a long way and then let them off. Very few matches are made in the district, and money is given as a fortune.
