  1. At the time of the penal days in Ireland, when the priests were not allowed to say mass, some of the priests used to go to some hiding place and say mass there.
    For instance St Catharage of Lismore use to say mass in a district called Shean. The field where the mass was said is now owned by Mrs Cunningham.
    The altar where the mass was said is still to be found there and also the steps leading up to it. Mass used also be said in most of the big farm houses in the district.
