    When Our Lord was to be nailed to the cross, the soldiers asked the smiths to make the nails but the smiths refused to make them. Then the soldiers asked the tinkers to make the nails and they made them, and ever since the tinkers are poor and hungry. They are condemned to wander from place to place.
