  1. Old people know much about festival customs. There is an old custom for Christmas night to have the children hang up their stockings to get toys from Father Christmas. It is an old custom to have the people burn the Yule Log on that night. When people meet each other on Christmas Eve they say "A Happy Christmas to you". On that day some people have a roast turkey or goose for their dinner. The day after Christmas Day is called St. Stephen's Day and there is an old custom attached to this day to go hunting the wren. It is the boys usually that go hunting the wren. The boys go from house to house singing a song and looking for money. They dress up in different clothes and they cover their faces so that they wouldn't be known. The boys put an "aghaidh fidil" on their faces on that day. There are not many customs for New Year's Day. The Epiphany falls on the sixth of January. It is called the twelfth night or the Women's Christmas. The people used to send caricatures on St.Valentine's Day. This day falls on February 14th. The first of May is one of
