  1. There were two men able to make nails in Liscarroll. Their names were Thomas Leahy and Jeremiah Sullivan Thomas Leahy was making them where Canty's shop is now and Jeremiah Sullivan was making them where Mrs Linehan's house is now. They used make nails and sell them to the people and the smiths. A nailer's shop was like a small forge. The nailer used long bars of iron which were very thin. These were called "rod-iron" from their shape. These he put in the fire and hammered them to nails. These nails were in great demand by the local shoemakers and blacksmiths. The nailers died about 45 years ago and the trade died with them.
