    few weeks after Xmas. It was the practice then of the Bean-a-Tighe to darn and mend the socks on Saturday night when the whole household had retired.
    About a month after the young man's death, Kitty was engaged in such work and as she had her task almost completed the kitchen door was opened gently and Jamsey walked up to the fireplace, put his back to it and looked at his mother who was unable to speak. Then he said to her "Mother I came to perform my promise to you and you put me to an amount of trouble - never during your life time make a like request to anybody." He then walked out the door and the mother retired to rest and from that time until she died "she did not remain on the fireplace after 10'oc".

    The following Autumn "Paddy from Galway" paid his annual visit. He arrived at Jack Cooley's about an hour after sunset. As was usual the boys of the neighbourhood came to hear from Paddy all the "news" since his last visit. When they had left, the family Rosary was said after which all prepared to go to bed. Kitty had Paddy's bed prepared for him and was about to retire to her own room when he said "Kitty" did Jamsey get married since I was here last as I did not see him here to night"? "No, Paddy", she replied, "Jamsey died early this year." "Wisha Kitty a gradhgeal" said he
