  1. There are numerous stories connected with giants and strong brave men who fought against each other. Mr. John O'Sullivan was renowned for his great strength. He lived in Coomleigh. On one occasion, he went to the forge in Bantry to get his horse shod. Four men came to beat him, as they had an old spite for him. But he beat off his assailants wounding one of them severely.
    Very often he lifted a half tierce of porter with one hand. Mr. O'Leary brought two bags of oatenmeal weighing twenty stone, from Macroom to his home at Glengarriff Rd. Bantry. Mr. Dennis Healy lived in Shahana [?] and he fought against a valiant man in Laughadireen [?] named Jeremiah Healy. The latter was defeated.
    It is supposed, that one day Brian Boru was sitting at the "Queen's Table". During the feast he arose and hurled a large boulder through the air, and it landed at Caherdaniel. Donal O'Sulivan Beara jumped from Carriganass Castle on a rock after murdering St. Leger. There was a very tall man about seven feet high
