    mixing medium meal and milk and making a cake out of the mixture. The cake was usually baked in a griddle.
    Barley was crushed by small hand mills called querns. Then the hulls were separated from the crushed barley and it was mixed with milk and baked in a griddle. Sometimes when it was half baked, it was placed in front of the fire to bake. The oaten meals was mixed with milk and a cake was made with the mixture. The bread was made twice a week and it was generally made on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
    Porter was sometimes mixed with the barley cake. The Querns were two large circular stones and a hole in the centre of them, and a number of smaller holes into which the grains were put. The women of the house used to do the grinding daily. Later on it was ground in the Donemark Mills which are now closed down and are to be let or sold.
    Griddle cakes were very hard and had to be baked daily. On certain occasions people bought
