    Pure black bread was used, and sometimes cakes were made from potatoes. These were known locally as "stampees". Meat was only used during Christmas, and it was usually salter. Pork was the usual meat eaten. Milk was never drunk on Ash Wednesday or on Good Friday. This was known as the black fast. about sixty years ago tea was first used by Mr Sweeney of Skahane.
