  1. In this district the young children often go about barefooted mostly in the Summer months. This is very healthy and it makes the soles of the feet tough.
    Of course it has its dangers. The children often suffer from road blisters and they also get bad cuts in their legs sustained through falls.
    Long ago the people used seldom wear shoes except going to Mass. That made them healthy, and used to the cold. The old people used wear "perk" boot. There are stories told about people who forgetting themselves sat near the fire and their boots melted.
