  1. I have heard many stories about string men who lived in this district not long ago. I have heard about men lifting big stones and weights. My father told me about a strong man who lived in Kells and his name was John McGrath. One day he was coming home from Kilkenny with a horse and cart. When he was going up Kells hill one of the wheels rolled over a large stone and turned over the cart. He shouted for help but nobody came to the rescue. He put his shoulder under the back of the cart and turned it back again on the wheels.
