  1. A Local Song

It was in November as I remember

    (1)
It was in November as I remember
To Dublin City we went by train
The morning was calm and the sun of shining
But soon disappeared in a mist of rain.
    (2)
Jones's road was the place appointed
where twenty thousand there were I'm told.
Where the Leinster Champions in Black and Amber
Met the pride of Tipperary in Scarlet and Gold.
    (3)
The coin was tossed and Kilkenny won,
The play began and the ball did roll.
O'Meara is seen to his post advancing
And Power of Piltown to the winning goal.
    4
Now good old Sim he's looking serious,
O Meara gets an awful fright
For Sim is coming both fast and furious
And draws first blood to the flag of white.
    (5)
    We have conquered Leinster
    And like wise Munster
The Connaught colours we too did lower
You may rest upon your laurels
On the lovely banks of the silvery Nore.
[This song was made in praise of the Kilkenny hurlers when they beat Tipperary in the all Ireland final. It was written by Phil O'Neill]
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
