  1. Long ago a great number of Stepdancers lived in this locality. The one I am going to write about is Mr. Courtney. He lived in Castlecomer about twenty miles from here. He travelled all over Ireland and beat some of Ireland's greatest dancers. He was taught by Miss Mac Sweeney.
    The names of the steps he used are: The Pipers, the Weaver, the lion's claw, the Five Shuffles and the Jump hop hop behind. He won over a hundred medals and over twelve cups. He was able to dance every dance that was known. Some of the dances that he danced were, the Reel, Double Jig, Hornpipe, Hop Jig, Garden of daisies and the Black Bird.
