    During the Black and Tan regime the outstanding man around Roscommon on the Irish side was Brigadier General Michael Dockery who was an able leader and soldier. He was killed in the civil war in a battle at Boyle between the Provisional Government and Republican troops.
    A giant lived in the Toomore district. His name was Eineal. He is buried in a mound in Rockvillle wood. It is said that before he died, he jumped to Galway from a stone near Hillstreet. He jumped from this stone to another giant leaving the marks of his foot in the stone. The track of his toes and heel are still to be seen in it. The stone is about two feet long.
    This giant was about twenty stone weight and stronger than any man. He usually wore a coat of dried skins. He had to have a special house
