  1. My home district is Carrow, Parish of Aughrim and Barony of Roscommon. There are fifteen houses and fifty people in the district. Gannon is the most plentiful family name.
There are five people getting the old age pension - Mrs. MacDonnell, Mrs. M. Gannon, Mr. Michael Gannon, Mr. Frank Gannon and Mr. Michael Hely.
There is one ruined house in the district, but there were many more before the Famine. A lot of people emigrated to America.
The proper name is Carrownaglearagh meaning the priest's quarter. It was so called because it had to provide for the priests of the parish.
The land is very fertile. It is composed of moor bog and upland. Limestone is abundant and the remains of an old limekiln can still be seen. The townland contains a lake, two rivers and many streams. It is well supplied with wells.
