    wire. The thunder and lightning abated when it started to rain.
    There was a great fall of snow in January 1917. It lasted for about nine or ten weeks. A hundred workers were employed clearing the road from the Chapel in Elphin to the Deanery. The road was cleared from Elphin to Ballyslish by the Sinn Féiners. The snow was the depth of a two storey house.
    It was during this period that Count Plunket was elected in this County.
