  1. There is a treasure said to be hidden at the Scotch Corner County Monaghan near Crieve School.
It was placed there by an old man named Sweeden. It was hidden for safety. There was one attempt made to find it by three men with their faces black.
The asked the man to tell them where it was and he refused. To frighten they put the griddle on the fire and were about to put him on it when his screams attracted some one passing.
The men made off but the fright killed the old man.
The treasure remains hidden until this day. It consists of a pot of sovereigns.
