  1. There are a good many animals in the farm-yard. The horse, the cow, the sheep, the goat, and the pig. Generally people have names on their cows such as Bess, Daisy, Lillie, and many other names. Some people have names on their horses such as Jack, Billy, Tommy, Dolly, Daisy, Norah, Sally, Lillie, and Fanny and many others. When the people are driving cows they say "how! how! and when they are taking them home they say téigh ! téigh. When the calf is born people put a goban on it to keep it from eating straws until it is nine days old. When people call young calves they say "Suck! Suck!". Long ago the people tied the cows with ropes and they are tied with chains now. The horses are tied with a halter or headstall.
    Some people hang the bone of an animal in the byre to prevent black leg. It is mostly the leg. Some people hang a horse shoe above the door of
