   My mother attended Camphill School Collooney. Mrs. Rooney was the teacher, she never taught any Irish. They used to write on slates and knit with quills. The school hours were from 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

   My father went to school in a place named Carney in the barony of Carbery, parish of Drumcliffe and Co. of Sligo.

   The school was situated about a quarter of a mile outside the village of Carney. It was a mixed school.

   There was no Irish whatsoever taught in the school during his time about forty five years ago.

   Each scholar brought a turf each morning for the fire in winter-time.

   My Grandmother attended Camphill School over seventy years ago. The teachers were two sisters by the name McDonald but they are dead over fifty years or so. They resided where the Campill cottages are now. There was no Irish in those days, they used to write on slates and when they reached 3rd class they had copies and pens. The classes were divided different then than in those day. First class and then second and then No. 1 No. 2 and after that 3rd 4th 5th and 6th. They had six books. Catechism
