The potato crop.

My father's farm of land consists of 38 acres of land. About 1 1/2 acres of this land are sown under potatoes each year.
My father ploughs the land before he sows the potatoes. The potatoes are sown in both ridges and drills. The drills are made with a plough and a pair of horses. Wooden ploughs were once used in this district, but they are not much in use now. Only one farmer in this district named Robert Hood has still one of these ploughs.
Spades are used for digging the popatoes. These spades are bought in shops.
In autumn the farmers dig the potatoes with spades, and machines called potato diggers.
The big potatoes and small ones are separated from each other and they are stored away in pits in(continues on next page)- Collector
