(continued from previous page)he got the sheeps' eyes. Dómhnall told him and asked "do you like me" Of course I do," said the boss, "You are the best boy I ever got."
The boss thought of another plan for him next morning. He said he was going for another party to Tralee that day, and to pave the path near the house with the hooves of cattle. Dóhmnall went and sawed off the legs from the knees down off the cattle. He paved the walk with them, and when the boss saw what he had done he got very vexed.
"Don't you like me," said Dómhnall. "Indeed I do, you are the best boy in Ireland," said his boss. His wife and himself were a long time planning as to what they would do next. At last he put his old mother up on a tree and told her to say "cuckoo, cuckoo" for part of the bargain was that he should pay Dómhnall his wages when the cuckoo came. They were sitting in the kitchen, when they heard the cuckoo on the tree. Dómhnall said it was a queer time of the year for the cuckoo to come, so he said he would go out and see what it was. He took out his master's gun and shot the old cuckoo. When the boss heard the shot he ran out, and there he saw his(continues on next page)
