    down the opening by means of a rope. Two boys let him down by means of a strong rope and when he got safely below he found a long passage at the end of which was a large room lighted by many coloured candles. In the room the farmers were feasting and making marry and they invited him to join them in the feat. He refused and returned to the opening as fast as he could where he was drawn up to the top by the two boys He told this story to his companions when he returned.

  2. Doonecoy - Dún an Lachaigh - is to the west of Rathurlisk. here is is said the riders attached to the Chief's house had their fort as the name implies.
    Arkill -Árd Chill - is in the townland of Doonecoy. The old tradition was that here we had the chief church of the Barony. It was also attached to the chief's house. The site of the old church can still be seen in the old Landlord's demesne. Naomh Muipeadhac agus Naumh Maslaire were born in the district and founded Árd Chill in connection with the
