- The children long ago used to be about 15 years of age before they wore boots in Winter or in Summer. The women in this district used to go to Tuam with butter and eggs and they used to carry their boots in their hands and they used to put them on at the priests house in Tuam before they would go to the market.
It is said that the fairies could not come in if you throw out the water in which the feet are washed.

- The people say if the children take off their boots in March that Mairtin na ngag (?) would catch. Long ago they wore Gutta-Percha boots made from rubber. They wore clogs also.
