  1. One night Joe McDaid and Jack Coyle, Lower Illies went to the river to a place called samore ford at lower Illies to fish for salmon. They had a lantern and when they lit it the holm beside them was full of little people whistling and singing and whispering to one another. The men put out the light and began to listen to the little people. They could hear them going up the top of the brae still whistling and the next place they heard them was at foot of Slieve Main hill. That was supposed to be where they had their fort.
