    the various kinds of potatoes are Champions, Duke of York, Kerrs pink, Arran Banners, Arran Chiefs, Epicures.
    Potatoes are stored in dark houses or in pits. Pits are made like this . A square or oblong foundation is cut out in a dry part of the field. The potatoes are put into it. They are covered with hay and straw and a bank of earth is put over them to keep out the frost.
