  1. Mermaids are never seen in this district because it is not near the sea. I heard that long a few of them were caught by the fishermen at Ballingarray. They came up the Blackwater as far as that place.
    The mermaids head and a little of her body are like any human being. She has hands and feet too. She has a tail like a fish. Her head is covered with long golden hair which she combs every night with a golden comb. The fishermen oftern see her rested on a rock combing it. Sailors regard it as an ill omen to see
