    is done in the forge except the shoeing of cart-wheels. This must be done in the open air near a river so that the red hot tyre may be made cold by the water.
    Long ago smiths made ploughs but nowadays we get out ploughs from Wexford and other manufacturing towns. The smith makes spades, tongs, horse-shoes and other such implements. He uses several instruments when working such as a sledgehammer, an anvil, a hammer, pincers, etc. Smiths have not a very nice life for their work is very monotonous.
