Long ago, the catholic people were not allowed to send their children to schools. There were Hedge Schoolmasters educating the children. They taught school in houses and in fields. Denis Cummins was the name of one Hedge Schoolmaster that taught around here. Some of them belonged to the place and more of them were strangers. They often stayed at our house teaching my grandfather and his brothers and sisters. They taught Irish, Latin, and Greek, along with other common subjects.
