- The people were often twenty years of age before they began to wear boots in former times. Some people never wore boots or shoes only when going to Mass. The children nowadays go barefoot in Summer but they wear boots the rest of the year. There is nothing done with the water used for washing the feet. There are no customs or beliefs connected with it.Boots are made and repaired locally. There are three shoemakers in this district. It was not a tradition in their families. There were more shoemakers in olden times than there are now. The reason is that there are more shop shoes worn now than in olden times.
Clogs were worn, but they were not made locally. Some people wear clogs at present. Leather was never made in the district. There were no foot coverings of any special kind of leather worn. There are no sayings or proverbs connected with the above.- Bailitheoir
