- The famine broke out in Ireland in th year 1845. The potato crop did not fail in this district as bad as in other places, but they people were very poor. During this time the people were employed to plant Briscoes woods and make the avenue. They worked for 4d per day. The meals were raw turnips and a grain of Indian meal scattered on them. They worked from dark to dark.
The people started roving around the Country eating anything they could find. some of the people was even eating the grass. It is said that the dead bodies were found on the side of the road(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
