  1. (2) The following about pace-names was related to me by my father, Patrick Benson, Carrowmaclenany, Rathmullen, Ballymote Co. Sligo.
    There is an old house built on one of the fields on our farm called "Joe's House." It gets its name from a man named Joe who lived in this house. The house is built about a hundred yards from a fort and fairy lights are supposed to be seen every Winter. The field on which it is built is called "Lorrageebeen."
    The townalnd in which I live is called "Carrrowmaclenany." Joe had a wife called Anne from whom it gets its name. The meaning of that long word is, the quarter land of the son of the family of Anne. The form o the word in Irish is "Ceathramha-mac-Cloinne Áine. About three hundred yards from my home is a place called Knock-na-wishogue or
