  1. To sell eggs or fowl when you are buying a horse and to put the eggs and fowl money with the price of the horse is lucky.
    Saturday and Monday are unlucky days for buying or selling anything.
    People used to burn holes in money to see if it would come back to them any more and it often did. If shopkeepers got bad money long ago they used to nail to to the counter to show the people it was bad money.

  2. There were not many shops around here long ago. Nearly all the people went to the nearest town for their groceries. After mass every Sunday there were stalls put up outside the church.
    Long ago there were four-penny bits, ten-penny bits and three shilling bits and double florins.
    In former times there were words used such as "boot" "tick" "cents" and "change".
