    In a little brick house on the side of a hill

    And grate them for people to buy
    She used the old method of rubbing it off
    Poor soul how she always would cry
    She had quite a patch where she gardened a bit
    Put out her potatoes and corn,
    She would hoe in the evening when the breezes were cool
    And be out again early at morn
    When she rested a while, for a breath she would gaze
    At the roses which grew on her fence
    They were cabbages pink, the old fashioned kind
    And wonderfully full of incense
    They carried her back to that Ireland of hers
    When she was a colleen quite small
    To a cottage all whitewashed and
