  1. Local Song

In a little brick house on the side of a hill

The following song is known locally and was composed by a Professor in Ohio about Bridget Monahan, a native of Athlone, who went to America, supplied by Tom Sweeney now in the U.S.A.
In a little brick house on the side of a hill
Around the next corner to town
Lived an old Irish woman, so quaint it would seem
That alone would have brought her renown
The map of the homeland with all of its wit
Was written in lines o'er her face
'Twould make little difference how hard she might try
The suggestion, she could not erase.
