  1. Amusements.
    Handball.
    Handball was a very popular game and hundreds assembled to watch the game. It was held between the two Batteries and sometimes in Custume Barracks.
    Cricket.
    Thousands attended the cricket matches. Teams came from Moate and Ballinasloe. The matches were held in the Gasworks Battery and in the Meadows, then owned by Cullen.
    Skittle Alley.
    This was played at the 'Thatch', Coosan, in the Father Matthew Hall and in Kirby's yard, Connaught St.
