  1. Long ago it was usual to get married in Shrove. May is an unlucky month for marriages. The fourth day after the feast of the Holy Innocents and Friday or Saturday are unlucky days for marriage.
The old proverb about marriage is :-
    "Monday for health,
    Tuesday for wealth,
    Wednesday the best of all,
    Thursday for loses,
    Friday for crosses,
    Saturday the worst of all."
