  1. I am living in the townland of Shyan. It is situated in the west of the parish of Kilmihil. It is in the barony of Clonderalaw. It is called Siḋeán in Irish which means the fairy height. It is a large townland. There are forty five or forty six houses inhabited in Shyan at the present day. Long ago there were about sixty houses in Shyan. There are only six slated houses in it and the rest of them are thatched. There are several old ruins in Shyan. The names that are common in Shyan are the O Sullivans and the O Gradys. There are nineteen getting the old age pension in Shyan.
