  1. In every townland there are old ruins of houses or of churches. In Shyan there is a ruin where Friars lived. There are several mounds of stone in the field where they lived. There are three hundred years since they lived They owned the most of Shyan at that time. They lived in a large monastery and in an other field near by they had a church. There were about twelve of them there altogether. When they lived Cromwell and his party were in Ireland. They were afraid of Cromwell and they hid their money under the ground. The soldiers attacked them one day and they were all killed except one. They burned the church and
