  1. Long ago the people were very poor and they had to sell the corn to make the rent for the landlord.
    They ate three meals a day in summer and two meals a day in Winter. The food they had consisted of potatoes, and sour milk, and sometimes porridge. The people were very strong and healthy. They were often up at five o clock in the morning and had three hours worked to their breakfast and for breakfast they had potatoes and sour milk They had porridge for dinner and potatoes for supper.
