  1. Landlords were rulers over big farms of land. There was a landlord in every townland. They used have tenants tilling the land for them. The landlord of Shyan was Brew Rúad. He lived in and old house, nowned by Thomas Finucane. He had twenty-two tenants. He evicted them all except six. He would evicted those too, but he had no locks to lock the doors. He went to Kilrush to buy six locks intending to evict the others. But he was shot on his way home.
