  1. In the Black water by the lands now owned by Matt OLeary of Carrigaline a huge eel was seen for several years. He was a terror to swimmers as he lived all the time in the same pool. A famous fisherman from near Kiskeam came to bait and take the eel. As he was preparing to make his cast the eel moved about the pool near the surface of the water. When the fisherman saw the dimensions of his adversary he picked up his fishing tackle and decamped. This occured about 1860.
An animal known as a river horse was supposed to be seen about 60 years ago on an inch of the river Araglen in Lisnaboy Cullen. It is said that it left the pool and came out, and ate the Cornfields.
