Dye Making.
Long ago before dyes were got from foreign countries the people of Ireland made their own dyes. Brigid Moran from Corrick used to make dye. For navy blue she got bog berries and boiled them and when they were boiled she strained off the juice and mixed salt with it and then it was ready for use. For brown dye she got the bark of an oak tree and she boiled the juice out of it and left it to cool and then it was ready for use. She had a big pot which she used to dyeing clothes.
Plough Making.
Michael McGreal from Fenagh had a forge in Keshcarrigan. He was an old man and he used to come from Fenagh to Keshcarrigan in an ass and cart every morning. He spent the whole day from nine o'clock until half past six in the evening making ploughs. People from all parts of the county came to buy ploughs from him. The ruins of his forge is on Keshcarrigan green yet He also made fire cranes. He lived about(continues on next page)
