    Fairy Forts
    -----------
They are called Forts around here and from one we can see two more. There is usually a fence of earth round them and trees on top of the earth. They are circular in shape. There is often an entrance and I knew people who went in, nothing happened them, and they got out safely. I went into a fort once and there were a great many big stones and bones of animals in it. My father (Mr. Henry McMullen, Mucklagh, Ballyconnell Co. Cavan) went astray in a fort one night. He was coming from the town and he went across the fields for a near way home. He could not get out of the fort field and was going round and round for a long time Then he took off his coat and turned it inside out and he got out of it. This fort is now owned by Mr. Blake, Slieve Russell Ballyconnell Co. Cavan.
There is a fort on Mr George Henderson's farm in Mullinacre Ballyconnell. It was tilled and there was a good crop in it with no ill-luck.
There is a Fairy Fort in a field owned by Mr. Wm. McGarvey, Ballyheady Ballyconnell.
