- About one hundred years ago there was an old school near Tinnehinch It wasn't built of stones but it was under an old beech tree. When three oclock used to come the teacher used to tell the scholars to come back to a barn a different one every night.
The name of the teacher was Master Cheevers and he used to get lodging in every house by different times. The pupils used to come from all parts of the County Carlow and get lodging not far away. The scholars bought no copies that time but they used to bring a slate and a piece of chalk to write on.
When the first of the spring came it was the time for the scholars. The pupils used to bring some little money and give it to the teacher. It was under an oak or a big beech tree that the school was.
