  1. Once upon a time there lived in the middle of Castletown bog a man named Tom Long. Every night a cat came and sat by his feet by the fire and said "A 'cauld' night Tom".
Tom was very much afraid of cat. One night the cat asked him to buy him a pair of boots. Tom said he would. He said he would bring the to town in a bag the next day. He said he would be afraid to let him loose for fear the dogs of the town might kill him.
The cat came the next day and Tom brought him to the priest's house. When he came near he told the cat he was in the town. He let the cat out of the bag and the priest's two greyhounds were each side of the bank. They ran through a ditch and killed the cat.
