  1. About a hlf mile from the village of Ballycumber on the road to Boher there is a hill called Barry's hill. A farmer called Barry formerly lived in a field near the hill.
In the Cromwellian war there fought in it a man called Diarmaid O'Coughlan whose castle was situated where Ballycumber House now stands.
The prudent soliders were billieted in the castle. O'Coughlan's brother who lived in Seven Churches was a member of the Confederate or Royalist army. O'Coughlan accompanied the soldier when they were marching towards Seven Churches and when passing Barry's field he asked the officer to save his brother's life and the grim prudent officer after been a guest of the chieftain erected the gallows and hing him on Barry's Hill.
