  1. In the old times the people did not use a brush like we do now, they used a besom instead. This is the way to make a besom. First we pull fine heather. Then we pick all the fine even heather and we put them together. After this we tie the heather with a cord. Then we beat the strong top off the heather with a pounder and we cut the fine tops of the heather with a sharp knife. Then the besom is finished. Many of the people use besoms still.
